February Half Term At Sands Resort Hotel Cornwall

We were kindly invited to spend three nights at Sands Resort Hotel in Cornwall during February half term -an unbelievably family focused hotel situated in North Cornwall between Newquay and Watergate Bay.

Cornwall is a great year round destination

Cornwall may not be somewhere you would think of visiting in February, but Sands Resort Hotel have got family breaks covered all year round and there is just so much to do in the region, meaning it most definitely isn't just a summer destination.

A spot of paddling on Fistral Beach

Having visited Cornwall several times before, including the summer, this was actually one of our favourite trips. We were blessed with beautiful winter sunshine and blue skies but without the crowds, which was so glorious. Whether you have a baby, toddler or older children, Sands Resort Hotel is somewhere we would definitely recommend for a family friendly break in the UK, read on and watch our video below to find out why:

Accommodation that accommodates us!

Admiring the view of the ocean

Finding a hotel to accommodate us as a family of five can be super tricky and as the girls are still little I'm not quite ready for adjoining rooms. We stayed in a Contemporary Sea View Suite which was perfect for us as it had two sleeping spaces in one room joined by a small corridor also leading to the bathroom.

Well thought out accommodation allowing us all to be in one room
with separate sleeping spaces

The girls were delighted to have a sleepover together in their section sharing a set of bunk beds and a single bed, while we had a huge double bed in the other section. The room was clean, comfortable and very spacious with a seating area, TV and tea/coffee making facilities and had plenty of storage for all our things.

The girls loved having a 'sleepover' in their room
and the novelty of watching TV in bed in the morning

We absolute adored waking up and opening the curtains to the spectacular view of the Atlantic which seriously made me want to relocate to be by the sea! The only downside was that we could hear other guests in nearby rooms but it wasn't a huge problem as everyone was in bed early because they had young families.

We miss waking up to this view!

Lots to do on site

There is plenty to keep the family busy during a stay at Sands Resort both indoors and out. The beautiful weather we had meant that the children adored the outdoor play areas complete with zip wire, maze, mini golf and even a bouncy castle!

The girls loved the bouncy castle

You can also play basketball, tennis and football and enjoy the outdoor fun pool during the summer months. Indoors there is a swimming pool, spa, gym, games room and small soft play area which can be used outside of kids club times and several lounge areas to relax in.

We couldn't get the girls out of the maze, they had hours of fun in there!

Kids Clubs

You receive a complementary kids club session, per child, for each day of your stay and can book additional sessions should you wish. We booked the girls in for the morning session on Saturday morning to coincide with some spa time in the Moroc Spa which was divine.

The staff were so friendly and put the girls immediately at ease. The girls had loads of fun playing, singing karaoke and crafting and making friends with other children in their groups. The kids clubs can accommodate babies, toddlers and older children meaning parents can have a moment to recharge their batteries or simply get organised for the day ahead, or pack up the car on departure day as we did!

Entertainment Programme

During the Cornish school holidays there is an additional entertainment programme each evening at 6pm that the girls were really keen to join in with. at 7,5 and 3 they all really enjoyed the magician and party games evening and it was lovely to sit and watch them have fun.

Waiting patiently for the evening entertainment to begin in the reception area

Flexible Dining

You can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel. Meals are timed to accommodate all members of your group with a wide time frame in which you can eat. The girls adored the self serve breakfast each morning, with fresh warm pastries and a cooked breakfast on offer alongside cereals, yogurt, toast and fruit, fresh juice and tea or coffee.

Delicious, fresh breakfasts are served from 7:30-10am every day

There is a family supper served from 4.45-6pm where you can either feed just the children or dine with them. There was plenty of choice on offer for everyone and the food was fresh and nutritious. This is such a great option if you have babies and toddlers. Family dining is also available from 6:30pm - 9pm which great for us as the girls were keen to go to the evening entertainment. We would never normally take them to a restaurant at this time so it was really special to be able to share an evening meal with them. A baby listening service is available should you wish to enjoy the adults only dining space once your children are in bed. We tried both the family supper and family evening dining and enjoyed both options.

Helpful and Enthusiastic Staff

The staff at the hotel are lovely and only too happy to help or point you in the right direction. We were always greeted with a smile and they often went out of their way to engage with the children which I thought was great. The Sands Resort team made sure we relaxed the moment we walked in the door.

Lots of Helpful Extras

The hotel have thought of pretty much everything to make sure that your holiday is as near to a holiday as possible. Travelling with a young family can sometimes mean packing everything including the kitchen sink, but at the Sands Resort Hotel there are off road pushchairs to borrow in the hotel foyer if you want to walk down to the beach, as well as buckets and spades, body boards and wetsuits in the surf shack. In the restaurant, there are plenty of highchairs, plastic cups and cutlery for children and I'm pretty sure if you'd forgotten anything the team would be able to help!

Golf clubs and balls are available to borrow from reception for mini golf

Great Location

The location of the Sands Resort Hotel makes it extra special. It's perched on the clifftops with amazing views of the ocean within walking distance of Porth beach. If it wasn't for the fact that Cornwall is so beautiful with so many wonderful places to visit you wouldn't need to leave. If you do want to venture out and about we would recommend The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan for family days out exploring and Mawgan Porth, Fistral and Hollywell Bay are favourite beaches of ours.

A view offering a huge dose of vitamin sea!

In summary, a stay at Sands Resort is a great holiday option for children and parents, we really felt like we had a break and were able to focus on just spending time together. Sands Resort Hotel is a place that will grow with you as a family and we'll definitely be back!
